How does Workscope discover shadow data and unstructured data? ▼

Workscope uses Agentic AI to discover unstructured data and can be deployed in several ways. When deployed directly to end users, AI Agents work silently in the background, identifying and capturing personal and sensitive data embedded within files in real time as users work.

When deployed on demand via a server or virtual machine, the AI Agents scan specific network locations defined by administrators.

Both deployment approaches enable organisations to surface data that exists outside structured systems —across servers, desktops, OneDrive, local directories, and email attachments and without requiring any manual intervention from end users.

What files, endpoints, and cloud environments can Workscope scan? ▼

Workscope can scan for a broad range of file types, including Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .xlsm, .csv, .xml and others), Microsoft Access, PDFs, Power BI files, Alteryx workflows, Python scripts, R files, Notepad files, and more.

It builds an inventory regardless of where files are accessed or stored. This includes network servers, local desktops, OneDrive, and shared drives. Scans can be configured to target specific folders and locations, and folder exclusions can be defined centrally to prevent scanning of restricted areas.

Does it map data and lineage across an organisation? ▼

Yes. Workscope maps end-to-end data connections across spreadsheets, systems, third-party vendors, embedded code queries, and databases. This data lineage capability helps organisations understand how files and connected, and how data flows between files and systems, providing greater visibility, traceability, and governance over data us.

Is it one-time scanning or continuous real-time monitoring? ▼

Workscope supports both one-time scanning and continuous real-time monitoring, and the two approaches can also be used together.

The platform offers two deployment modes:

On-Demand: Administrators choose when and where discovery scans are performed.
Real-Time: AI Agents operate continuously in the background, automatically discovering and analysing data as users work, without manual intervention.

These modes can operate independently or together, providing organisations with “always-on” observability to proactively manage governance, risk, compliance, and transformation initiatives, rather than relying solely on periodic point-in-time assessments.
