As a proud Jamaican based right here on our beautiful island, I am thrilled to share the experiences of my first month as the Head of Commercial Operations at Securys. It's been an extraordinary period, marked by our 10th anniversary and the exciting launch of our new office in Jamaica which will serve as the operational hub for the wider Caribbean region. This expansion is more than just strategic growth; it is a heartfelt commitment to empowering and uplifting our region through positive and practical data protection.

My connection with Securys began in a rather remarkable way. I first became aware of the company when they stepped up as platinum sponsors for the recent Sagicor Sigma Run - an event that is not only a major fundraiser, but also a symbol of community spirit and resilience in the Caribbean. Their bold involvement in such a significant cause was both noteworthy and powerful, and it spoke volumes about their values. I thought to myself, "this must be a wonderful company to work for, one that truly understands the importance of people and community."

Over the past few weeks, the warmth and commitment within Securys have profoundly touched me. Our work goes beyond business; it weaves into the fabric of community engagement and development. I am deeply moved by our pledge to making a real difference here in the Caribbean.

I am particularly excited about our vision to transform the Caribbean into a centre of excellence for data protection expertise. The potential to elevate our local talent to international prominence and strengthen our economies is not just exciting, it is transformative. This vision is about local enrichment, spotlighting our capabilities on the world stage, and creating opportunities here in the Caribbean!

Building on the success of our recent conference in Barbados, titled "Compliance Beyond Borders: Insights from Financial Regulators," we are eager to bring similar initiatives to Jamaica and other Caribbean islands. These events are crucial for fostering community engagement and developing a unified approach to data protection. They are an essential step towards elevating the standards of data privacy across our islands.

At Securys, privacy is more than compliance; it is about integrity and trust. Our initiatives such as Privacy Made Positive®  advocate for privacy as a cornerstone of ethical business practices that will invariably boost profits for organizations. This approach resonates deeply with me, echoing my personal values of honesty and ethical engagement.

Our robust certifications such as ISO27001 and 27701 and membership of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) underscore our commitment to standards and quality. Our involvement with local industry groups, such as The Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, The Jamaica Manufacturers & Exporters Association and the Jamaica Technology and Digital Alliance, strengthens our connections and amplifies our impact. Exciting times lie ahead, and I'm here for it!

Bringing over two decades of experience in leadership and technology within the Caribbean to this role, I am filled with enthusiasm for what we can accomplish together. Each day is a new opportunity to contribute to a legacy of trust, innovation, and economic strength that will benefit generations to come.

Thank you for starting this journey with me.  Together, we are not just protecting data; we are paving the way for a future where the Caribbean leads in data protection and economic resilience.
